Water is an essential resource. But in the context of a changing climate, the transition towards a water-smart economy and society is crucial. The CIRSEAU project will build a Circular Water Economy Community formed by relevant stakeholders from all fields, with the goal of contributing to this shift towards a circular European water cycle. With this goal in mind, 5 working groups have been created to:

CIRSEAU is an EU-funded project with the mission of accelerating the transition towards a water-smart economy and society by fostering circularity in the water sector.

The project promotes collaboration across disciplines and sectors through five dedicated working groups. These focus on key areas such as the uptake of innovative water solutions in the market, the development of policy-relevant indicators, the removal of social barriers, and the training of Young Water Professionals to meet the challenges of a changing climate.

At the heart of CIRSEAU is the creation of a Circular Water Economy Community — a long-lasting ecosystem that connects stakeholders, facilitates knowledge exchange, and promotes the adoption of sustainable practices such as digitalisation, water reuse and brine mining.

By sharing results, co-creating solutions and amplifying impact, CIRSEAU aims to accelerate Europe’s path towards a more resilient and circular water future.

Changing water users’ perceptions and behaviours to encourage the adoption of circular solutions.

Addressing relevant social barriers and developing a map for efficient management of resources and energy in a sustainable water cycle.

Accelerating the transition to a circular water economy, in line with EU policies of Zero Pollution, to become climate neutral by 2050.

Promoting the triple sustainability: for the people, the economy and the planet.

Creating a Circular Water Economy Community to unite different stakeholders and keep working towards a water-smart cycle.

CIRSEAU will become a self-sustained operational body to develop proposals and actions to strengthen the European Green Deal and EU water-related policies. The project will promote sustainable and circular management and use of water resources, following these key steps.
